> Say you witness a murder and you get a real good look at the suspect. In the future, will a police officer simply retrieve the image from your mind using brain waves and AI technology?
> No more sketch artist impressions drawn from a description, but instead this could be a bona fide “real-life” image that your brain is transmitting into a hard copy.
There's nothing frightening about the tech--only the misunderstanding of what it does--like the above. We perceive the presented image from a small number of samples and hallucinate an image in our minds, usually it's close enough for the intended purpose but many details are filled in arbitrarily. Any 'image' extracted from a mind is a hallucination that's coarsely fitted to the input, not anything of photographic nature.
The problem with eyewitness inaccuracy isn't only in the interpretation of the image they see. The image they saw was already constructed with their current context and past experiences (aka biases).
