If we read their comment assuming good faith, a Hacker News guideline, its clear they are merely trying to give credit or otherwise say something positive.

Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize. Assume good faith.
- ilkke 3y agoI started the post by stating that I know no disrespect was meant. It is precisely in this context that I want to clarify how this very common way of expressing artist appreciation can, and often does, rub the recipient the wrong way. Anecdotal, but I wouldn't be sharing this unless I knew they many of my peers artists feel the same way.
