I’m skeptical of legalization efforts ever since mj became legal over the last ten years.
Weed went from 5% THC to the 90%+ level through breeding and commercialization. People were aiming for the best product with the highest hit. I’m having shrooms will get the same treatment as it becomes legal in more states.
The potency bothers me because more studies are coming out showing the side effects on the brain and the body now.
- genocidicbunny 3y agoWhere the heck did it increase that much? There has certainly been a creep in potency for flower, but we're talking about maybe upper-30's for most of the 'high-potency' bud. 90% stuff is things like concentrates, which have been available long before legalization.
- namlem 3y agoCareful with percentages, sometimes it's base do total mass ratio whereas sometimes it's on oil mass only. There have been high potency strains (>20% THC by dry mass) since the 1960s, it's just that they're much easier to produce reliably now thanks to tech advancements. I don't think it's a concern for mushrooms though, because people aren't looking for the strongest trip necessarily.
- eurleif 3y agoIt's more commonly posited to happen the other way around: "The iron law of prohibition is a term coined by Richard Cowan in 1986 which posits that as law enforcement becomes more intense, the potency of prohibited substances increases." [0] Even if you don't believe in the iron law, the fact that people were applying it to marijuana when it was still illegal in all 50 states shows that potency increases didn't begin with legalization as you seem to be implying. - financltravsty 3y agoOne of shroom’s saving graces is that it builds tolerance real quick. Yes, you can decide to take breakthrough dosages every single day for weeks on end, but it likely won’t get you anywhere. Unlike weed, where a common route of abuse is to get high every single day, with stronger and stronger weed. With shrooms, you can try that, but realistically you’re at most having a real trip every 2 weeks, or microing every other day. However, it’s uncertain if tolerance means the mushrooms are having no effect on the body and mind. I’m seeing most weed around here at 30% THC / ~0% CBD, and it’s just not fun. Completely unpleasant when you accidentally OD, because you’re not a regular smoker and take a bit too long of a drag on the franken-weed.
