Even if Google had launched Gemini prior to GPT-3 coming out, I doubt it would have made much of a splash. Google is always announcing amazing advances that never materialize. How much of a difference in stock price did it make when they demoed that AI phone assistant back in 2018. I thought it was pretty amazing. Haven't heard a peep about it since then. And maybe that is Pichai's fault, but Google has been doing this for a long time.
