Mastodon tackles the problem of 'reply guys' with its latest feature
- turtleyacht 3y agoNext thing you know, you have to argue with ChatGPT that your reply "substantially contributes to the conversation." An interesting feature, no? The chatbot may suggest rebuttals, references to past literature, and even offer grammar correction & spellcheck. The poster could even prime the chatbot per post, asking it to run sentiment analysis, lower its threshold quality, and override settings to welcome certain replies over others. It's almost like a proof of work, rising to court opinion with a determined stance. "Successful" replies are added as ongoing correspondence, but solely up to the parent to publish. If left unpublished, further replies are sustained in private dialog. To attract a diverse audience of readers, even the best contrarian lines of thought need to be included, or one risks forming an echo chamber. That leaves whether the origin poster even wanted to be persuaded, or is just sharing. Just sharing, no action needed. Although one unwritten rule may be, if thou post a seed, also shalt thou tend to the resultant garden (for a time).
