  Which provides no analgesia during recovery, and that a topical or local is used in neonates where general anesthesia is standard of care for circumcisions later in life raises significant questions of its own. I'm not dogmatic on the subject, which seems rare among those inclined to speak on it at all. But I do agree that the cited benefits don't seem to justify the intervention.
