"Indeed, many startups simply license and rebrand AI models created and sold by these tech giants or their partner startups. This is because large tech firms have accrued significant advantages over the past decade. Thanks to platform dominance and the self-reinforcing properties of the surveillance business model, they own and control the ingredients necessary to develop and deploy large-scale AI."
Amen.
- cratermoon 3y agoI read somewhere recently, and sadly I don't have a link, that these little companies building things using AI, say proving some product that uses the OpenAI API, are building tools that the tech giants can simply incorporate into their products. This is especially true for Microsoft, because for anything a startup can produce built on OpenAI, Microsoft can simply reproduce it as part of Azure. Sure, that might be infringing on a startup's IP, but that hasn't stopped MS in the past. Worst case, MS can buy out the company, giving the founders and investors their exit.
