Tokyo Stock Exchange uses the "itayose" method for its opening auction: http://www.tse.or.jp/english/faq/list/stockprice/p_b.html http://www.tse.or.jp/english/faq/list/stockprice/p_b.html But yeah, it wouldn't be a good method for an every-N-seconds auction.

  Sorry, I meant to say "the every-N-seconds auction is not a good idea, even with the itayose method". The reasons are basically the ones traversal mentioned above.
