Al Gore Says Social Media Algorithms Are 'Digital Equivalent of AR-15s'
- Bostonian 3y agoThe government regulating what social media companies show you likely violates the 1st Amendment.
- AnimalMuppet 3y agoSo? I'm not sure the world in general cares very much what Al Gore says. I'm not sure even whether Washington cares. And I'm pretty sure that the internet doesn't care. And, AR15s? Is that all? Has he noticed how much people care about AR15s? (Whether you think they should or not isn't the point. The point is, people don't care. It's not the motivational tool that he thinks it is.)
- salawat 3y agoTechnically speaking, algorithms would be machine guns in firearms parlance. C'mon Gore, at least read up on the regs first. This puts them in the same regulatory bucket as shoestrings, lightning links, and electronic firing systems(which are often implemented using algorithms, dear god, it's machine guns all the way down!). I'll be over here popcorning til I keel over, or until people realize I'm actually right. I suspect I know which'll happen first. It won't be people suddenly realizing our torture of language in the name of politics has to stop.
