Why does Apple release so many buggy updates?
FFS, they own, created, maintain and tightly govern the entire ecosystem.
- jaegrqualm 3y agoMy understanding of this problem with Apple has always been that the more control you have, the more surface area there is to make screwups. This may partly describe why their software offerings have never been out-of-this-world, at least relative to the hardware. They just have their much more software overhead to do as a result of their business model.
- sonicanatidae 3y agoFor me this is lack of resources and Apple can afford whatever resources are needed. Apple sells a boutique product and experience, then deliver things like this. They certainly charge enough to get it right the first time.
- JumpCrisscross 3y ago> they own, created, maintain and tightly govern the entire ecosystem This bug involves interfacing outside that ecosystem. For the most part, Apple products just work.
- sonicanatidae 3y agoDo you really need me to start posting mass links to all the bugs in prior Apple releases that had nothing to do with 3rd party apps/hardware or can we just assume you're aware of them, but chose not to mention it here?
- JumpCrisscross 3y agoNo, it’s just an odd call-out given the context. And broadly speaking, Apple’s products are more reliable than the competition for most users.
- sonicanatidae 3y agoBroadly speaking, I def agree with you. Android is a tragedy of versions, forks, half implementations and overlays. My issue with Apple remains, don't charge people for boutique experiences and deliver buggy software. Apples sells it as perfect, so either be perfect or shut up. For the record, I swap between Apple and Android every 18-24 months. Being IT, I tend to get handed anything, and I like keeping up on the handheld OSes. Thankfully, we're not doing blackberrys or Windows phones any more. I hated those things.
