I 100% agree with this, even as much as I am someone who spends a lot of time on meta-improvement: the equivalent of sharpening one's blades is more like keeping all of my devices charged. I have to do this or the device fails me, and it is time and effort that is at times annoying, but can itself be optimized, and there are some tools that need this work done less often, leading to interesting trade-offs.
