Wikipedia cites this source which says that podcasting developed originally out of a script that an individual wrote to import audio content from an RSS feed into iTunes: https://blubrry.com/manual/about-podcasting/history-of-podcasting-new/technical-history-of-podcasting/ https://blubrry.com/manual/about-podcasting/history-of-podca... This source even says “If your hosting provider won’t offer an RSS feed, you should find a new host because they clearly don’t have much experience with podcasts”: https://castos.com/podcast-syndication/ https://castos.com/podcast-syndication/
