Many large areas of water freeze at winter. But maybe the solar panels could be used to give out heat so that they don't freeze. Some loss of power in the winter then but so it is anyway.
- closewith 3y ago> Many large areas of water freeze at winter. Not for long.
- rjmunro 3y agoWhy is not freezing better?
- zdragnar 3y agoAnything floating in water when it freezes is prone to being damaged as the liquid water expands into less-dense ice.
- rgmerk 3y agoEqually, many large areas of water do not freeze in winter, and the places that do not tend to have more favourable economics for solar power anyway. Not to pick on you but a lot of the energy conversations on HN seem based on the premise that the entire world has the climate of upstate New York.
- audunw 3y agoYou don’t need hearing to avoid freezing. You can just pump bubbles around the solar panels to prevent ice from forming. That’s what marinas do if they don’t take the boats out in winter
