Companies say they're closing in on nuclear fusion as an energy source
- bediger4000 3y ago"net energy in a matter of years", and "years not decades" until fusion yields usable power. Writers are getting creative with "5 years out" predictions!
- jszymborski 3y agoThe predictions not long ago were "30 years out" so that sound like progress.
- sydbarrett74 3y agoCompanies have been 'closing in' since WW2.
- jszymborski 3y agoThe article addresses this point of view repeatedly. We aren't where we were in the 60's, much progress has been made. How much time until something is commercially viable remains to be seen.
- sydbarrett74 3y agoThat's exactly my point. Until it becomes commercially viable, 99.99999% of people don't care, and simply roll their eyes upon every announcement of the latest 'breakthrough'.
- FreddaGennaio 3y agoNuclear fusion, the process powering the sun and stars, holds immense potential as a clean, virtually limitless energy source. The recent advancements made by various companies in achieving nuclear fusion are groundbreaking. This progress not only symbolizes a significant scientific milestone but also heralds a potential paradigm shift in how we approach global energy needs. I'm highly optimistic about the prospects.
- credit_guy 3y agoHere's Helion [1] announcing "profitable fusion energy in 2019", back in 2014. And here's them again [2] announcing in 2015 plans to "start building commercial systems by 2022". The advancements were not groundbreaking, the announcements were groundbreaking. - simonblack 3y agoFusion Power has been '20 years away' for the last 60 years. Wake me when they manage to keep it 'fusing' for 5 minutes.
- DemocracyFTW2 3y agoHey you shortened it, original is Companies say they're closing in on nuclear fusion as an energy source. Will it work? to which according to The Law, the answer is NO, case closed
