Save it from what? The only desktop I've used recently that seems to be getting less and less usable by the day is Windows. My slackware i3 system runs smoothly, my wife's Macbook runs smoothly; it's my kid's Windows 11 laptop that seems to always be needing something, and takes forever to do much of anything on (boot up, install a gpu driver update, etc). Even gaming on Linux has been quite smooth in recent years thanks to Lutris, though I will admit, not being willing to drop more on a graphics card than on the entire rest of my system does mean I'm not playing new AAA games. Seems to me PC gaming isn't about the PC anymore as much other than an addon for the graphics card, which is all but a standalone console otherwise, given what they've grown into.
