- buro9 3y agoI use Tailscale to make my home network available from my phone, and then an app called Cx File Explorer to be able to fully navigate the file systems involved and view or download any file from it. I also use Plex to get all media on my phone, and that's actually my primary interface and so I very seldom ever need to ensure I'm connected to Tailscale or browsing, as what I need to access via phone is not usually files, it's usually media. If it is files, I tend to have a laptop on me and that also has Tailscale, so also benefits from just accessing it all as if it's local. The only part of this I'm likely to change is Tailscale as I really dislike not being able to register account to my email and I don't have a Google, Microsoft or Apple account, and don't wish to use GitHub for this - and I haven't seen a super simple self-hosted OIDC solution for my own email (I wish Fastmail would provide one)
- ggpsv 3y agoThis is my main gripe with Tailscale too, at least for personal use. What are you thinking of using instead? Headscale?
- buro9 3y agoI've been looking at https://www.defined.net/ https://www.defined.net/ as an alternative. And also saw this on HN a month or so ago https://blog.janissary.xyz/posts/tailscale-oidc-authelia-carpal https://blog.janissary.xyz/posts/tailscale-oidc-authelia-car...
- ggpsv 3y agoThat blog post is quite handy, thank you.
- rakoo 3y agoI've never used it, but there's a syncthing app that doesn't sync anything but allows you to browse what's in the share: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.syncthing.lite/ https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.syncthing.lite/
- akvadrako 3y agoThis is abandoned - the github project is archived and no releases since 2019.
- Gys 3y agoActually I am on iOS and this is an Android solution. But from one thing I found another and finally got to Resilio Sync (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/resilio-sync/id1126282325 https://apps.apple.com/us/app/resilio-sync/id1126282325) which might be a good solution.
- akvadrako 3y agoI tried Resilio (formerly BitTorrent Sync) years ago and it was quite slow and unreliable, but indeed there are no good Linux + Mobile solutions in this space, so you have have to sacrifice something.
