if it makes you feel better, it's really common to have "almost" moments like this in life. i had a project circa 2007 that was very successful and working great and making decent money ($300/month, which was a lot for me). i was a young stupid fresh college kid and blew it off to do other stuff. several years later someone started the same premise but stuck with it and now surely makes a million+ per year off it. (i dont want to be too specific but it was a website to help people make purchasing decisions for a specific thing in an interactive way and made tons off referral links)
