At least 15 Starship launches needed to execute Artemis III lunar landing
- bell-cot 3y agoReaction: Sure...on paper. But NASA's current Artemis III mission profile has more moving parts than an old Swiss watch factory, coming from more different companies than a GM car. Pretty much all of which are undeveloped, untested, and unflown. Vs. if SpaceX and a close partner or two could come up with equipment ~equivalent to the old Apollo Service Module, Lunar Module, and Lunar EVA space suits, they could combine those with an up-spec'ed SpaceX Dragon (man-rated and regularly flying to the ISS since 2020) to do lunar landings with vastly fewer launches. It would be extremely funny if Elan & Co. were landing billionaire-tourists on the moon before NASA's official missions managed to get back there...
