My 993 was a daily driver for a long time. The maintenance isn't bad at all -- honestly, over the nearly 20 years I had it, it was probably one of the most reliable cars I ever had, and the cost of ownership wasn't bad AT ALL. Pre-993 generations were pretty spartan, that's true, but the 993 was reasonably comfy, had very good climate control, etc. (I mean, I live in Houston. Good AC is required.)
