You're Not Imagining It: Cell Phone Reception Is Getting Worse
- JumpCrisscross 3y ago> Verizon had, for some time, decided that buying more spectrum was too expensive…in March 2021, Verizon spent a whopping $52.9 billion to buy mid-band spectrum…the company is only using that new spectrum for its 5G ultra wideband network, which costs about $10 more per month…it is unaccessible to people like me who don't want to pay even more on my phone bill. TL; DR Author is upset about their cheaper Verizon service. (And about price-based rationing after complaining about crowding.)
- cainxinth 3y agoThe problem in my town is NIMBYism. We need more cell towers badly, but the town is more concerned about how they look. The end result is that a large and well funded suburban community has absolutely awful cell service... but when I bike 20 minutes away towards a more rural area (which is less concerned about cell towers marring their skyline), suddenly I have full bars even on an empty forest backroad.
