Look, a great idea and a couple bucks will buy you a grande americano. A mediocre idea however, can make you rich beyond your wildest dreams. The trick is to reproject that idea into working code -- and if you aren't going to do it without YC, you wouldn't have done it with YC either. If you actually build something of value, some of your friends will be so excited about it that you won't have to search for a cofounder. So really, a YC rejection IMO should be interpreted as "just build the damned thing already". Build it and cofounders will come.
