A rural post office was told to prioritize Amazon packages. Chaos ensued
- h2odragon 3y agoLocal postmasters have an amazing degree of autonomy by the standards of other industries. This is one person being a jerk and doubling down on a mistake, most likely. Doing bulk mail, long ago; I tangled with the postmaster at our post office over the details of the presort to qualify for "bulk" discounts. Their book said one thing; the postmaster hadn't read the book in a recent decade, and said something else. So we sorted the way the postmaster wanted. They were (and afaik still are) the arbiter of "what this office accepts." My wife is a rural carrier; she's out doing "amazon" today. Their office takes out anything they have on Sunday, not just Amazon packages, because "it'll be there Monday if we don't and it's gotta go out sometime." I do not know how they do the accounting for that, Amazon's Sunday deliveries are supposed to be a special, voluntary overtime thing. Mixing regular mail into that has got to cause some irregularities.
