Never before have I read prose which soundly resonated with me! By the same measures, I too seek the stability and a place I can call "home". Yet every time I feel that I found a place I could call home, reality kicked back very hard and I was made to feel different, separate, an "other".
I'm not sure which direction I'm headed to, and unlike you, I haven't even found my calling, so at least you have it better than some. And at least, I know now that I'm not alone in this experience.
- joe-javascript 3y agoThanks for sharing your feelings and I'm glad you can relate. That to me means my original comment made a dent, somewhere, somehow. That's enough. Yes, you're right that I am indeed lucky to have found my calling - luckier than most in fact - and I won't ever take that for granted. For what it's worth, I had been chasing meaning and purpose for years and quite honestly, I only ever came closer when I stopped actively seeking. I hate to be all preachy, but there's something about surrendering the illusion of control every now and that sometimes helps put things into perspective - at least for me. Something like a cognitive "sleep on it" in a way. Then again, words are cheap, actions are rarely easy, so I can understand if such realizations are not universal but all we can do is share our experiences.
