I read the book shortly after moving to New Mexico. It helped provide a depth to my understanding of the state, not just with water issues, but also long-standing cultural differences between the Spanish and Anglo populations (and subdivisions therein), and an awareness of what was part of the cultural context of the late 1960s/early 1970s, like the Coors boycott (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coors_strike_and_boycott https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coors_strike_and_boycott).
