This seems to increase a made-up number to artificially make it seem more expensive to keep doing what we're doing, rather than any actual physical change.
> Plug the new number into the agency’s proposal to tighten tailpipe emissions by ramping up sales of electric vehicles or into its proposal to eliminate pollution from power plants, and the economic benefits of each rule could increase to more than $1 trillion, much greater than the estimated cost to the affected industries.
Let's be honest though. The industries won't be paying this. Consumers will. Is it worth more to the consumers?
The attack ads write themselves.
As someone who would prefer not to live on a hot earth, this seems like a great way to shoot ourselves in the foot and continue to not explore actually-effective solutions, like geoengineering, nuclear fusion, etc.
Let's tweak another number, that'll surely do it! Even more if it makes Joe Sixpack pay more for his already overpriced electricity!
