I love these maps, and I'm glad they provide downloads like [1]. I wish the resolution was a bit higher. As it is the names of the towns on the coasts can be read with difficulty.

- dotancohen 3y agoWow, that map is very political. Israel is not mentioned by name, but the Palestinian Territories are.
- josh_frome 3y agoTelecom Egypt is the sponsor of the map
- Kye 3y agoThere is no selection of labels for disputed territory that will make everyone happy. It's inherently political.
- dotancohen 3y agoWith the exception of the ambitions of fringe terrorist groups, the land that Israel has ruled since 1948 is not disputed territory.
- jacooper 3y agoSo writing Israel isn't Political? Your definition of political is obviously biased.
- dotancohen 3y agoWould writing Germany be Political? Writing Ukraine? These nations exist and are functioning parts of international relations.

- jacooper 3y agoWell Germany isn't occupying lands illegally or commiting war crimes every minute.
- dotancohen 3y ago1. Neither is Israel, despite how your news source is trying to manipulate you. 2. Those nations that do occupy lands illegally and commit war crimes are in fact listed, so that disproves any connection to your supposed reason and the real reason for eliminating the name of the state of Israel.

This sounds eerily similar to people trying to justify the apartheid in south Africa, oh our allies don't say it's bad so it's fine! The end of the Israeli occupational doesn't mean the deportation of Jews, Jews lived in Palestine in Peace with Muslims and christians for a long time, it's a holy land for all three religions.
- h0nd 3y agoMaybe to avoid politics, the name of the region was used.
- dotancohen 3y agoThat would have been an acceptable explanation in the 1950s or early 60s. But after 1964 one of the sides adopted the regional name as a national identifier, thus invalidating it as a neutral name.
- mikae1 3y agoToo bad it's a rather shitty JPEG that's blotchy in the more uniform "white" areas. I've been able to compile a map from the png tiles for the earlier versions of this map. It uses mapbox.js and tiles have URLs like this one: https://tiles.telegeography.com/maps/submarine-cable-map-2023/3/2/1.png https://tiles.telegeography.com/maps/submarine-cable-map-202... https://dezoomify-rs.ophir.dev/ https://dezoomify-rs.ophir.dev/ is helpful.
