- tremon 3y agolooks at the name, looks at the headline > In 2014, I received the Honor of “Commendatore della Stella d’Italia” (Commander in the Order of the Star of Italy) Not many Dutch people have been bestowed the honor of receiving an Italian commendation.
- fjfaase 3y agoShe might still have the Italian nationality. Citizen from the EU are allowed to work in any EU country and can keep their nationality. From the Dutch Wikipedia page (translated with Google Translate): Morganti graduated with honors in astronomy from the University of Bologna in 1982 with a thesis on radio galaxies. In 1987 she obtained her PhD from the University of Bologna with the thesis Morphology and Physics of Radio Galaxies. From 1988 to 1989 she was a fellow at the European Southern Observatory in Garching. She then served as staff astronomer at the Istituto di Radioastronomia in Bologna from 1989 to 1999. In 1999, Morganti moved to the Netherlands and became a researcher at ASTRON in Dwingeloo. In 2005 she also became a part-time lecturer at the University of Groningen. In 2011, she was appointed professor by special appointment of Structure and Evolution of Radio Galaxies at the University of Groningen.
- Someone 3y agoFirst words from the article (emphasis added): “Three astronomers FROM the Netherlands” Because of that and her Italian-looking name, I suspect she’s Italian. Wikipedia thinks so, too (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raffaella_Morganti https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raffaella_Morganti) > Not many Dutch people have been bestowed the honor of receiving an Italian commendation. I expect quite a few will have minor ones, as it’s customary to bestow them on ambassadors and politicians. Reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Star_of_Italy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Star_of_Italy), this one isn’t minor, but still follows that pattern.
