This article is filled with misinformation and seems unnecessary hostile. I think the only reason it got so many points is because it's a hate on Atlassian thread. The implementation seems perfectly normal, I would guess 90% of all developers would implement an animation this way.

If anything the title should be "inefficient animation implementation in Google Chrome is wasting half a CPU core".

  BitBucket offered free private repos long before GitHub. The hate is unjustified.
