- arcza 3y ago+1 for not using GMaps
- hyggetrold 3y agoi prefer mapquest / that's a good one too / but google maps is the best / true that / double true!
- creshal 3y agoSeems to be completely overloaded and not archived, RIP.
- willk 3y agoIt is getting hugged to death. It is a map with locations of retro computing/gaming points of interests. Think arcades, bars, shops. Really cool idea. Going to use this to find cool places to checkout in places I visit from now on.
- aquova 3y agoI really like the idea of this, as I've found it hard finding places that sell older technology. However, it's unclear to me how new entries are added. Do I have to be a business to add an entry, or can I go in and add stores in my area that I know are missing?
- epicide 3y agoThere is a (very small) link at the bottom for "Add Listing". Looks like you have to create a login to submit and manage listings. I'm not sure if it's intended for business owners to do it since that also seems to be for managing events. I can say that at least one of the entries likely isn't from a business owner. The map has one of their locations, but is missing several of the others. As a whole, I also really like the idea. I know of a lot of places that cater to retro stuff (not just gaming) in my area and it has taken me the better part of a decade to find them. I can only dream of the places that I haven't found. Sadly, several of my beloved places have closed down and I can't help but wonder if a directory like this might've saved them. The categories don't make a lot of sense to me, to be honest. For example, there's "bar/pub/eSports": I don't think it makes sense to lump those together. Should an eSports lounge that doesn't serve drinks be tagged with that? Should it be a cafe instead? What about a barcade? Is it an arcade or is it a "bar/pub/eSports"? I am also entirely confused why half of the filters for the map are things that only have a digital presence and, thus, no geographical location.
- jasonjayr 3y agoYou can also suggest a listing to them to add. I presume they will reach out to the venue to see if they want to be added or not. I've already suggested a local venue near me they didn't have in their database.
- cactusplant7374 3y agoIt uses IP address to determine location?
- vogt 3y agoif the author of this has any interest in collaborating with a designer please let me know. Huge fan of this and would be happy to contribute. peter at peter[HNusername].co
- swyx 3y agochatgpt almost cracks this cipher https://chat.openai.com/share/216621d2-336a-413a-9b89-1258e04a7355 https://chat.openai.com/share/216621d2-336a-413a-9b89-1258e0...
- vogt 3y agoThe cipher is for any email spam crawlers, not hiding my identity. Pretty common practice on this site.
- Aldipower 3y agoTo be honest, this page, in terms of retro, is good as it is. Love the layout. Text is instantaneously readable to me.
- vogt 3y agoAgree on desktop, not so much on mobile
- pryelluw 3y agoNice, found a cool museum rather close and some arcades. Weekend plans updated.
- dfee 3y agoI love this. Was happy to see Free Gold Watch in SF, and discovered some new places I’ll check out this weekend!
