I think wkhtmltopdf and PhantomJS are the most active open source solutions.
There's also http://pypi.python.org/pypi/xhtml2pdf/ http://pypi.python.org/pypi/xhtml2pdf/, written in Python and using ReportLab (which certainly has some nice properties).
