> "You work hard on that machine for an hour, and that work can be erased with five minutes of eating afterward," Hall says. A single slice of pizza, for example, could undo the benefit of an hour's workout. So could a cafe mocha or an ice cream cone.

Note that I do not discount the other health benefits exercise brings, and everyone should get in as much as humanly possible with the schedule they're working with.
Our bodies are so incredibly efficient with calories that exercise is simply not an effective way to lose weight.
Calories in, calories out are all that matters. Don't expect to lose weight with a 2000 calorie diet. It took me 15 miles with a 3000' elevation gain to burn 2500 calories -- a nearly 7-hour hike. A single day's worth of calories burned in a largely unreasonable amount of time for nearly all adults.
- throwaway4aday 3y agoWhatever, agree to disagree because I've lost weight this way without changing my diet. Obviously adding 6 pizza slices per day to counter balance your energy expenditure is going to prevent you from losing weight, I'm pretty sure I said "without changing your diet" though.
- nullindividual 3y agoThey're not talking six slices, they're talking one slice to undo a workout. Not sure where you invented six from. You're free to debate scientific evidence, but it stands stronger than an anecdotal statement.
- throwaway4aday 3y agoone slice is roughly equal to one hour of walking in calories. I said you need 4 - 6 hours per day of walking equivalent workout so 4 to 6 slices of pizza to counterbalance that. Of course, it's hard to eat pizza while you're exercising so it'd be a challenge to keep the weight on.
