Open source email pioneer Roundcube joins the Nextcloud family
- greenthrow 3y ago"Pioneer"? Open source email clients had been around for 30 years before Roundcube existed? So many people in tech today live as if nothing existed before their career started. That is not good.
- sp332 3y ago"Pioneer" means they did not invent it. If they invented it, they could say inventor instead of pioneer.
- greenthrow 3y agoI know what pioneer means and I was responding appropriately.
- neurostimulant 3y agoMy memory is a bit hazy, but wasn't roundcube got its popularity because it has more features than squirrelmail? Back then when you need a webmail client, it's either squirrelmail or roundcube. There might be others but I didn't pay any attention to this space back then.
- pseudostem 3y agoThere was also IMP/Horde and these days we have rainloop too.
- bawolff 3y agoIt seems bizarre to describe a modern company as an "open source email pioneer" The email pioneers are from a different era. Sendmail is a pioneer in email, not some modern company.
- dang 3y agoComments moved to https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38457953 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38457953, which has an article with more background info (and a title that doesn't say things like "joins the Nextcloud family")
