Austin Plans to Eliminate Single-Family Neighborhoods
- thelastgallon 3y agoZoning is a huge (US) problem, discussed in all the housing posts on HN. Austin is trying to the right thing, upzone single-family. This comes on top of Austin removing parking minimums which is a huge and welcome change.
- Finnucane 3y agoI don’t get how this would raise property taxes. If you have smaller lots, there’s less to assess. But then, I live in a neighborhood where almost none of the lots are anywhere near 2500 sq feet, so I don’t quite see the problem with that either.

- yuppie_scum 3y agoIf this kind of thing upsets you, Austin probably isn’t your vibe anyway. And you can drive like 20 minutes from sixth street and be in bucolic rolling countryside. There will be plenty of SFH options in the Austin area for a long time whether these changes happen or not.
