I have also lived in other cities and towns in the Bay Area totaling about 35 years. I have never once had my car broken into in any of the other Bay Area cities. I am not claiming that these things happen only in SF but rather that your risk profile goes up significantly when in San Francisco. Nobody needs to make up stories, there are too many real stories to remember them all.
