I remember Netscape Navigator getting SIGBUS on Solaris SPARC machines once or twice a week. Presumably this was due to most development being done on systems that allowed unaligned memory operations.
Architectures that allow unaligned memory operations should at least have some sampling mechanism to record the instruction addresses causing misaligned operations, for both portability and performance improvement of codebases.
