      George Orwell noted during WW2 that fascism didn't have a good definition (see https://orwell.ru/library/articles/As_I_Please/english/efasc https://orwell.ru/library/articles/As_I_Please/english/efasc). This is during the culmination period of a literal world war against fascism--and it was still liberally thrown around as a slur against anybody whose politics you didn't like.
