Is it cheaper to rent or buy property?
- h2odragon 3y agoHard to include things like "I can knock down this wall if i want to" in these calcs. "My daughter's first dog is buried under that rosebush," is worth how much? I built my home, to a design that either quirky or outright goofy depending on your perspective; as a machine to make the lives of myself and my family better. That is that value I place on it, not a monetary figure. There's no easy way to state a money amount that would be a fair exchange for this house. "Enough to build another just like it" wouldn't get the land and the history. I've shed blood on this land and it has yielded bounty in return. Am I just that far out of range? Is everyone else treating their house as a fungible good with no personal meaning, now?

If anything, it probably used to be even more like that: >The typical U.S. homeowner has spent 12.3 years in their home [...] with median homeowner tenure sitting at about 10 years in 2012 and 6.5 years in 2005. https://www.redfin.com/news/homeowner-tenure-2022/ https://www.redfin.com/news/homeowner-tenure-2022/
