This is sorta the logic behind time outs, which literally are supposed to be "time. out." Remove them from the setting where they're misbehaving, into an area where they can have big feelings safely but aren't exposed to stimuli which might intensify the tantrum. Eventually the feeling goes away because there's nothing to feed it. My kids have long memories, unfortunately.
