As a New Yorker, I endorse this statement! If you’re the kind of person who is devoted to a car-based lifestyle, there are other cities that will suit you better, and it will make it easier for those of us still in the city to bend it toward a more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly culture. Let New York be good at what it’s good at. God knows there are plenty of other cities in the US that are more car-centric.
