This tries to give the impression that cars are being towed for no reason - "In either case, the car you left legally street parked at home is the last thing on your mind—until you return a couple weeks later to find it’s gone."
The only specific example given of a legally parked car involves the author's car getting 2 tickets on consecutive days, both for expired vehicle inspection. The author does not say the car was towed, which would be an odd omission given the topic, so I feel safe in presuming that their car was not towed.
There's other discussion of jurisdictions that will tow for unpaid parking and/or traffic tickets, but nothing to support the impression this leads with.
Legally parked != legal vehicle, and being legally parked does not create a shield that prevents other laws from being enforced.
- PaulHoule 3y agoI dunno. One summer, I stayed several times at one hotel in Queens not too far from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravenswood_Generating_Station https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravenswood_Generating_Station and there was a Mercedes on a nearby street with a boot on it that stayed in the same place for several months so they don't always tow a car in 10 days.
- sjsdaiuasgdia 3y agoNeither myself nor the article claim cars will be towed in 10 days. The article is about how NYC's laws give the city the right to sell your car as soon as 10 days after towing.
