Tell HN: We should celebrate 80th birthdays on HN
People are often celebrated when they’ve died on HN (like everywhere). But this creates a sense of continued loss that impacts the collective psyche. And also - it misses an opportunity to praise people who’ve they’re alive.
I propose we start celebrating 80th birthdays for notable people in the tech/science community. It’s a way to celebrate people while they’re here, as well as to see a continual stream of people that are making it into old age (and are still going).
- h2odragon 3y agoNot a bad idea, but why not 50th? Few people make their world changing splashes after that age, and they're generally not into the "embarrassing opinionated" stage then, either.

- mdrzn 3y agoNot a bad idea, but why not 30th? Or X+10 years after the release of their impactful project?
- JumpinJack_Cash 3y agoAn 80 year old dude doesn't care about being name dropped on a random obscure forum on the internet.
