The article focuses on the development of a long-term strategy for running a university, defining the development of “steeples of excellence” as follows: “The idea is that while a comprehensive university must be competent – or maybe even good – at a lot of things, it has to choose the areas in which it is to be great.” I thought that this was interesting, as the term is a way for smaller universities to compete with larger ones with more funding and recognition, by consciously outcompeting the bigger players in specific areas. That idea must apply to other areas of life, too.
