I have noticed this, and I've been thoroughly impressed by spider's ability to assess a situation. For whatever reason they love to get stuck in my bathtub, and while the smaller house spiders are a bit slow, a few times I had the larger hunting spiders (either wolf or brown recluse I think) voluntarily walk on the container like it knew I was helping. A few other times I had them living in the corner of the bathroom, and when I turned on the shower they would casually stroll out of the bathroom (to avoid the steam?). Pretty cool creatures, and useful since they kill mosquitoes.
