I'm confused, the problem here was putting further AI development on safety rails?

  Me a little too, it's not usual that we think about "increasing safety" as delivering tangible benefits. Of course I come down on the other side of the debate when it comes to safety - the machines are still quite far away from murdering us all, we should still be full throttle on pushing the capabilities if we want to do the most good.
