It seems that the structure of the nonprofit that is supposed to supervise the for-profit org was repaired to a degree.
And it’s a good move that no OpenAI employees, investors or researchers, CEOs are on the board, currently.
The previous setup where the same people that were responsible for delivering products, maximizing profits or returns on the investment had to share a regulatory role was shaky.
Note also, many other companies are simply for profit, and suffer from the same problem. It maybe a good idea to make sure that some X company would benefit from similar supervision.
From the examples of regulatory frameworks in the industry, Fintech feels a bit similar, companies are secretive about their trading strategies, the pressure to deliver returns on the investments and competition is pretty insane. And flash crashes and economic downturns can result in the significant destruction of wealth. Perhaps something like FINRA can work?
