X thread by the Deception Research Society:
"This is totally unacceptable! YouTube has removed a video of one of our speakers. Jonathan Jarry's talk at this month's event addressed current trends in pseudoscience. The reason for YouTube's decision? Medical misinformation. This is absolutely ridiculous and once again, totally unacceptable!
The talk was extremely relevant to deception researchers, and gave the public a chance to find out what goes on in the world of misinformation, so that they would be better informed and less subject to the influence of misinformation! In other words, YouTube removed a video aimed at combating current trends in pseudoscience.
FYI, we appealed against this decision, which was rejected.
Please like, comment and share this post. Maybe if it gets some attention, YouTube will take notice and do something about it. Or if any of you have a contact at YouTube, any help would be most welcome.
For those of you who don't know us, the Deception Research Society is a group of over 500 researchers and practitioners whose aim is to foster the development of scientific knowledge about deception through dialogue between researchers from different disciplines and different countries. We believe that this dialogue is essential to better understand deception and to develop evidence-based practice."
- ZeroGravitas 3y agoI was thinking that it was totally reasonable that a video about misinformation would be auto-flagged as misinformation. Which made me think the person complaining about this was an idiot. Then they mentioned that they'd appealed and had it rejected, which made me more sympathetic to their cause but still couldn't shake my initial impression that they came across as an idiot for complaining so emphatically about a false positive. And in a field they apparently study!
