Considering the behavior of people around me I wonder why we still waste time talking about it.
In my opinion there are only 2 possibilities:
- an authoritarian government spread globally and put in place consumption/production restrictions to all humans. Of course, that's basically impossible and saying it would be unpopular is an understatement. As it is, the rich countries are barely reducing and that's with delocalizing a good amount of the larger emitters like manufacturing. Now go tell 3rd world countries they still stay poor because if they try to achieve western lifestyle, we will all burn. Good luck.
- many catastrophic failures occur and enforce an emission reduction but mostly because many humans die and the rest feel content with what they have now.
Outside of that it's not even worth discussing. I see everyday people with enough money to not have to work or do any kind of consuming activity burn more petrol in a week than some do in their lifetime. There is just no way out of that. The rich are the ones who should be responsible yet they are the least likely to comply, so it doesn't matter...
