Apple will not be value for money for desktops, especially if you need large RAM, disk. Top of the line Max won't beat mid range 40xx. For laptop though build quality, battery life screen etc. matter. I was looking for a personal desktop 6 months back, building an Intel based was no brainer. And now I can upgrade SSD/RAM and graphics as my need budget evolve.
