OpenAI board lied about reasons behind Altman's firing
- pen2l 3y agoWhen the board was asked for details by the team, they said they couldn’t provide a specific example because Sam had been so deft—as if he had cast a magic spell on them. I've read pg et al singing praises about Sam, about the magic he works. I saw the /results/ when he became Reddit's CEO for a few days ('a child's play' for him, by his own admission: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/3cs78i/comment/cszwpgq/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/3cs78i/comment/c... ). But his magic is done mostly behind-the-scenes and behind closed doors. To be the fly in the room to see the magic spells he casts, see the Sam Altman distortion field...
- croes 3y agoOr it's just hard no name a single example and it's more the sum of small manipulations.
- DigitalSea 3y agoSo apparently, Sam Altman is so skilled he can cast magic spells on people? This just all adds credence to the fact he was fired because of a coup.
- croes 3y agoOr he is great in manipulating people so it's hard to point at a single proving example
- ChildOfChaos 3y agoDepends if he was entirely candid about which spells he was casting on them I suppose.
- catchnear4321 3y agomost people don’t save their receipts. it is a hassle until you need it. most interactions aren’t between “the good side” and “the bad side.” there seems to be a hesitance to entertain the possibility that a bad board pulled a coup on a bad ceo. harder to pick sides. more likely than a good board pulling a coup on a good ceo, but that’s also possible. everyone got too afraid and now they hug it out. so, no, not magic. just mass amounts of detail outside the public eye. makes for a lot of possibilities that people will speculate about online. even argue over it.
- ianhawes 3y agoReminder that lying to law enforcement is a federal crime. If one of the board members said something to the Government that they can prove is a lie, they’re likely criminally liable. The mere fact that they were talking to law enforcement at all would indicate they did not have any sort of counsel in the loop which is a tragedy in and of itself.
- mijoharas 3y agoIn the photo on the twitter thread[0] (which isn't very visible) it does say the board spoke counsel and then responded saying they couldn't point to a specific instance. - croes 3y agoThe title is an allegation.
- greatgib 3y agoI this story, what is crazy is the communication, marketing skills and relations that Altman has. Sometimes he managed to have things being publish like if it was PR of the board or of OpenAI.
