Statement from President Joe Biden on the Hostage Release Deal in Gaza
- 2Gkashmiri 3y agoso usa is claiming that they are responsible for the deal. big news i suppose. wasn't the US claiming self defense when israel started their assault on gaza and started commiting a genocide in hopes of "storming the night" and what people called "hannibal directive".. i suppose that too failed causing damages of men and machinery to israel which is directly hurting american taxpayers so they scale back and then claim victory in defeat. nice
- jfengel 3y agoThe big deal in this statement, to me, is thanking the leaders of Qatar and Egypt. Israel and the Palestinians aren't going to work this out on their own, and the US is always going to be seen as too biased to play more than an ancillary role. They could be very important, not just finding a final cease-fire but possibly a real lasting peace. We're a long way from that, and I personally believe it can't happen while Netanyahu is in charge of Israel. But there's good reason to think that will end in a couple of years, and if these two can continue to be trusted by both Palestinian leadership and whoever runs Israel next, there might be something positive. I'm not prone to optimism, especially on this topic. But to see names named here actually matters.
